GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The Entry Level Food Safety Laboratory Scientist will be part of the Research and Development team and will be responsible for executing basic R&D experiments that are related to food safety and food microbiology, as directed by the R&D team. The successful candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to work individually and in a team environment, both in the laboratory, and in the field, as needed. The Entry Level Food Safety Laboratory Scientist should demonstrate the ability to develop and implement a written protocol, execute the protocol in either the food safety laboratory, pilot plant, or in-field, and effectively communicate in a written technical report the results of the research. *THIS IS A SAFETY- SENSITIVE JOB FOR PURPOSES OF THE ARKANSAS MEDICAL MARIJUANA AMENDMENT. * ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Perform routine food safety/microbiological testing following established protocols and Standard Operating Procedures. 2.Develop Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory equipment and methodologies. 3.Document results of testing following a technical report format. 4.Effectively communicate, per audience, the data and results of microbiological testing. 5.Troubleshoot and maintain microbiological testing equipment, to include supplies and microorganisms. 6.Maintain the lab in compliance with Safe Foods housekeeping and safety standards. 7.Assist Senior Research Scientist in literature reviews. 8.Assist in the field, either R&D or Technical Services, as needed to gain experience and knowledge in how to communicate the findings in a laboratory environment to what is applicable in the food safety industry. 9.Assist in the operation of the Pilot Plant to effectively execute a food safety experiment utilizing equipment used within the food safety industry. 10.Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Due to the nature of this work, you must be 18 years of age or older to apply. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The Entry Level Food Safety Laboratory Scientist will report directly to the Senior Research Scientist. The duties will be performed in a laboratory environment, Pilot Plant or in-field. The laboratory environment will contain biological safety hazards, at BSL-1. Performing the experiments will require extensive standing, and extensive use of arms and hands. Situations may arise in which the candidate would travel or work outside of normal business hours due to the need for data collection, or to assist other R&D team members to gain valuable, applicable knowledge.
