Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated and innovative System Support Engineer to join a growing team focused on delivering high quality research seed within the Global Breeding organization. The System Support Engineer reports to the local Warehouse Operations Manager and supports automation systems dedicated to seed processing, packaging and distribution within Monsanto’s broad field testing network. This position will be based in the Des Moines, Iowa seed processing facility.

The successful candidate will have interactions with Global Breeding personnel across North America, including multi-crop interactions spanning corn, soybeans, cotton, wheat and canola, as well as with breeders, scientists, automation engineers, and software developers. Daily responsibilities include upkeep and repair of production automation systems, tracking and reporting of system performance, and operation of equipment alongside production teams as necessary. The System Support Engineer will work directly with cutting edge proprietary seed processing automation systems and optimization teams.


  • Continuous support and operational oversight of seed processing automation systems
  • Maintenance and repair of seed processing equipment, including interactions with Monsanto automation engineers and scheduling of outside service providers as necessary to enable maximum operational efficiency
  • Assist in design and installation of innovative workflow solutions and integration of automation technologies through collaboration with Monsanto automation teams
  • Identification and correction of root causes of system and equipment malfunctions
  • Accountable for quality control and continual assessment of processes and automation systems against established key performance metrics

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor”s Degree in Agricultural/Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural/Mechanical Systems Management, Agriculture Systems Technology, or a related field
  • Strong computer skills related to data capture, organization and analysis
  • Strong foresight, planning, prioritization and organizational skills
  • Ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot problems
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak operational seasons
  • Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and demonstrate leadership

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Familiarity with seed technologies and plant breeding methodologies
  • Experience with troubleshooting of automation and control systems
  • Specific experience with SolidWorks CAD software
