The primary responsibilities of this role, Software Engineering Intern, are to: 

  • Provide production support data base management and creating APIs 3D modeling;
  • Explore new technologies and collaborate closely with team members and partners within the business;
  • Responsibilities may include exploration of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), User Experience (UX), and User Interface (UI);
  • Internship opportunities for this assignment include May 18th, 2020 through August 7th, 2020 OR June 15th, 2020 through September 1st, 2020;
  • Using computer-aided design (CAD) software to create and mature concepts;
  • Creating high-quality renderings and animations to communicate design to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign;
  • Comfortable with languages such as C#, Java, JavaScript, node.js, and Python;
  • Experience with computer vision and marker tracking;
  • Experience creating performant APIs;
  • Database experience with both relational database management systems as well as nosql and you know when to use each;
  • Proficient with GitHub and understanding the benefits of source control;
  • Proficient with several aspects of the software development process (planning, testing, development, performance optimization, refactoring, debugging, production support);
  • Able to work 40 hours per week.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with 3D modeling software such as Blender;
  • Experience with Unity 3D, Unreal, or another 3D gaming engine;
  • UX interest/background;
  • Experience designing games or game-like experiences;
  • You can speak to what has and hasn’t worked in the AR space;
  • Knowledge of the HoloLens SDK;
  • Experience in the creation and manipulation of 3-D models;
  • Experience with Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) and/or Augmented Reality Markup Language (ARML);
  • Knowledge of texturing;
  • Ability to create highpoly and lowpoly models and textures;
  • Experience creating/tuning surface shaders.
