Position Summary: Tasteful Selections is looking for a Safety Technician to lead our safety initiatives across our shift schedule – we have multiple shift openings. The successful candidate(s) will be able to work nights and some weekends. This position is responsible for supporting departmental safety initiatives, including minimizing risk of job-related accidents and monitoring operations to eliminate hazardous activities. Our Safety Technician will play a key role in policy development to promote OSH (occupational safety and health) awareness and create a workplace culture that focuses on safety.

Relationships: This role will report to the Safety Director and will work closely with other Safety Technicians, as well as Management Team members throughout our facility and farm locations. Safety Technicians will also communicate regularly with contract labor contacts for accident reporting and additional employee training needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain recordkeeping systems
  • Track and maintain KPI and safety performance metrics
  • Conduct training in all safety related topics
  • Conduct daily and periodic inspections and audits, subsequently tracking and ensuring the implementation of safety improvement opportunities
  • Participate in and lead emergency evacuation and response activities
  • Competently address employee concerns seeking assistance as needed
  • Facilitate and support the implementation of safety initiatives
  • Conduct job hazard analysis of all positions
  • Perform safety sampling and exposure monitoring
  • Prepare and present technical reports
  • Issue and or authorize safety related permits, e.g. hot work, roof access, etc.
  • Assist Safety Director in conducting refresher training as required to all employees in the area of health, safety, ergonomics, and other required areas
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in all areas of safety
  • Assist with the implementation, institutionalization, and maintenance of the company’s SMS (safety management system)
  • Facilitate employee-led behavior-based safety process in a team-based environment
  • Create, monitor and maintain SHARP’s (Safety and health accident reduction plans) for each department
  • Walk through production floor and outside receiving/washing areas several times per shift reinforcing safety protocols and ensuring that supervisors are following and enforcing safe practices
  • Work with different departments, including production, warehouse, QC, and maintenance to ensure workplace safety standards are implemented and enforced
  • Assist with employee with multi-causation incident investigation protocols to identify root causes and track completion of corrective actions
  • Maintain records for all work-related injuries and/or illnesses, provide statistical analysis, and assist management in developing effective counter-measures to improve safety objectives
  • Address any conditions or practices that may adversely affect personnel safety with Safety Director and/or Management Team
  • Compile data, generates reports, and distribute reports to appropriate parties
  • Help maintain and manage the EHS programs, policies, and procedures that comply with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Administer new hire orientation safety training as needed
  • Participate in monthly safety committee meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills:
Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree or 2-year degree in safety from an accredited college or university
  • 1+ years of work experience in environmental, health, and safety related role and or a minimum of having completed a safety internship
  • A basic knowledge of industrial hygiene (IH) and engineering principles
  • An understanding of machine guarding theory and Lockout/Tagout
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • OHST, CLCS, or CHST or GSP, ASP
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. to be considered for this position
  • Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other applicable government regulations and accident/injury prevention / investigation procedures
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and accomplish objectives with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • Must be capable of facilitating and maintaining a high level of efficiency and excellence with multiple projects
  • Must be a Team Player with strong training and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as needed
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and trainings to all level of employees

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or related field of study
  • ASP (Associate Safety Professional) Certification
  • Experience in manufacturing environment
  • Risk assessment experience
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports and complete audit procedures
