Our Vegetable Seeds team, part of the Bayer Crop Science Division, is specialized in breeding, production and sales of vegetable seeds. For our R&D site in Italy, we are looking for a talented, enthusiastic individual with a passion for plant breeding for the following position:

Internship in Breeding, Italy

We offer an incredible opportunity to gain broad experience within a market-leading, innovative, multinational company. This is a chance to work in a multicultural environment within a highly motivated and professional team and an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience of commercial breeding. Program duration will be 6 months from approximately July 2019 until December 2019, based in Latina, near Rome, Italy.

Your main responsibilities will be:

To manage and develop an exciting project within the fennel breeding program. Activities can include, but are not limited to:
   
Setting the in vitro protocol for parental lines propagation.
 

Planning and assisting practical activities related to the project

Conducting and coordinating performance trials in the open field

Data collection in the field and data analysis using custom software

Assisting daily breeding activities

  • Graduate students pursuing a MSc Degree in Genetics, Plant Breeding, or any Agriculture-related degrees.
  • Knowledge in genetics, methods of Plant Breeding and Agronomy is highly desirable and strong communication skills are required for written and oral presentations including strong computer literacy. 
  • Excellent knowledge of English, written as well as spoken, is required. Knowledge of Italian is highly desirable.
