The Head Grower will lead our newest 35,000 sq. ft. production farm in Hamilton, MT. This will be a hands-on role, working closely with staff across the organization to ensure daily production activities are carried out on time and to specifications. The Head Grower will oversee implementation of the growing, food safety and training procedures for the facility and will work closely with the management team to identify critical processes for improvement. Will manage a team of farmers and farm hands to ensure processes for growing, harvesting, processing and safety are followed and documented. Will be responsible for ensuring  facility production goals are met on time and in full.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of our Hamilton, MT facility and will be responsible for meeting company targets and goals for production

  • Manage growing operation procedures from seeding to packing and food safety procedures (GAP, FSMA, MT Dept. of Ag, etc.)

  • Responsible for production planning, resource allocation and scheduling of farm activities

  • Works with Vice Presidents on programs for new crops, growing methodologies or process improvement

  • Responsible for the accuracy of regular production reporting

  • Ensures optimal plant health by monitoring and adjusting growing environments using automated controls systems

  • Reduce the risk of pests through management of a rigorous IPM program

  • Work closely with management to ensure production activities stay on budget

  • Manage a team of farmers and farm hands to ensure both production goals and personal goals are achieved

  • Responsible for creating a culture of food safety by overseeing training programs and ensuring food safety practices are strictly enforced across all production activities

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct farm management experience, greenhouse or CEA (preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in agronomy, horticulture or management

  • Proven ability to effectively identify and remedy nutrient deficiencies in various crops

  • Experience managing and implementing a robust IPM program and ability to correctly identify common pests

  • Demonstrated experience managing dynamic teams to achieve specific goals

  • Experience and/or training in standard food safety practices and their implementation and employee training

  • Ability to communicate core concepts and ideas effectively

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds as this is a physical job
