Career Category College Job Job Description Amgens 10 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patients lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation. Limited relocation housing and/or miscellaneous allowance may be available for eligible candidates. The goal of this internship is to explore protein engineering options and various host expression systems to generate important reagents for use in key therapeutic areas here at Amgen. The successful intern will first optimize production of the desired target molecule and then characterize it using standard preparative and analytical methods. The intern will then assess manufacturability and stability as well as binding and function. The intern would work with the staff in protein technologies to accomplish these goals. The intern would gain exposure to cloning, expression, and purification methods in an industry setting and would have the opportunity to present their work in poster sessions and departmental meetings. The skills acquired during this internship can be applied to a wide range of challenges encountered in the development of large molecule therapeutics. Basic Qualifications Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 18 years or older Graduated with a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a Masters program for a Masters internship OR a PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment Must not be employed at the time the internship starts Preferred Qualifications Currently pursuing PhD in Biochemistry, Biological Chemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or other related field. In at least the third year of current program. Familiarity with general protein engineering strategies and experience with basic cloning techniques is preferred. Experience in protein expression and purification is preferred. Familiarity with protein structure and protein structure visualization using PyMOL or related software a plus.
