Position Purpose

The General Production Supervisor ll, position is responsible for day-to-day management of operations of the Cargill Lactic Acid Department. The position is responsible for transforming departmental goals into measurable results. This includes supporting the team structure through leadership of department non-exempt personnel; supporting safety, food safety, environmental, and quality requirements; managing costs of operations. This position works closely with all areas of the facility in supporting projects, including Manufacturing Technology (MT), and Continuous Improvement (CI) operational improvement opportunities.

Principal Accountabilities

40% Development and supervision of direct and indirect reports (coaching, Performance Management Plans (PMP’s)). Work with peers at location in establishing consistent personnel policies. Lead department and area in a manner that results in an engaged and safe environment. Provide leadership, organization, and communication to the department; ensure structure, training, and a team that operates as a high-performance work team.

30% Key member of the department leadership team. Will develop deep technical knowledge of the department. Assist in project selection and implementation including assisting other members to accomplish the goals of the department to align with the site business plan. Develop plans for continuous improvement of the department including actions and driving accountability.

25% Focus will be on creating a zero-injury culture, food safety, environmental compliance, and reliability.

5% Any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher:
  • OR High School Diploma/GED with minimum 5 years technical experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 2 years manufacturing and/or project management experience.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a challenging and physical production and industrial environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written within multiple levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of Food Safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of basic HR practices, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Guiding Principles, etc.
  • Leadership: A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Green Belt certified
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years direct or indirect supervisor experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing.
  • Supervision, including employee hiring and retention, performance review and discipline.
  • Past supervisor experience.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Working knowledge of principles of reliability.

Career Development

This position develops the skills of motivating others, delegation, developing employees, and listening and communication. The supervisor position will build key planning and coordinating skills, along with priority setting, and optimization skills. The supervisor position can prepare a person for other positions including, but not limited to Team Leader and PDG engineer.
