Who we are:
Trembling Prairie Farms Inc. is a family owned farm operation, growing a variety of vegetable crops in Wisconsin and Montana.  We grow red onions, yellow onions, red potatoes, specialty potatoes, celery, seed potatoes, pinto beans and other rotational crops.
What we’re looking for:
Trembling Prairie Farms Inc. is seeking a full-time Farm Manager for their Kinsey, Montana location. You will offer a strong knowledge of agronomy and potato/vegetable background along with working independently on managing this location and other full-time employees. You’ll be very hands-on with the equipment and working alongside the rest of the team. You’ll work directly with the owner to effectively manage a total of approximately 500 acres of ground for approximately 120 acres of low generation seed potato with the balance of rotation crops including pinto beans, wheat, and corn.

We offer a competitive compensation package including a strong base salary, yield bonuses, newly renovated housing, a company truck, and health insurance. Total compensation package ranges from $70K+ depending on experience. Relocation assistance available.  
What you would be doing: 

  •  Lead all aspects of the farming operations from a very hands-on aspect including maintenance, repair, and preparation and oversight of the vegetables, along with running equipment
  • Oversee all field operations including tillage, planting, cultivation, harvest, and cover crop establishment
  • Oversee and manage a team of 3-4 full-time employees during regular season in addition to more seasonal help during peak season (September and shipping thru May)
  • Maintain and develop relationship with landlords
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with the owner, regarding the overall status of the operation and progress of the crops
  • Manage quality including viruses and seed borne diseases as well as above ground diseases, rot prevention, pressure bruise and other quality concerns
  • Work with the Montana Seed Potato Certification Department to fulfil all the aspects of the Montana seed potato program
  • Manage all aspects of agronomy including spray and fertilizer application, scouting fields, and irrigation
  • Oversee potato storage management and all logistics in shipping seed
  • Lead the maintenance schedule including managing maintenance projects, inventory, ordering parts, preventative maintenance schedule on all equipment including irrigation pivots
  • Maintain a strong ongoing relationship within the community
  • Cost control in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability
  • Maintain a safe facility and work environment

This job might be for you if you have: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Crop and Soil Sciences, Agronomy, Agriculture, Plant Pathology or an Agricultural related field
  • Two plus years of potato and/or vegetable growing experience strongly preferred
  • A Strong knowledge and understanding of Agronomy and/or Agronomic practices
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and excellent leadership ability
  • Problem solving skills
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Have the flexibility to work independently and motivated to be successful
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrate a strong sense of leadership
