The primary responsibilities of this role, Chemical Production Engineer, are to: 

  • Provide process control auditing on performance metrics and troubleshooting support to production personnel as needed to identify and correct problems that impact raw material yields, capacity, safety, and product quality;
  • Create/maintain process, safety, and environmental documentation, including process flow diagrams, operating instructions, management of change (MOC) forms, etc;
  • Displays expert technical or specialized knowledge to make significant technical improvements;
  • Exhibits some knowledge from outside of the assigned area;
  • Assist manufacturing leadership in identifying and leading improvements related to raw material yields, capacity, energy, quality, product safety and the environment;
  • Sets tactical plan directions and policies for GIX & Bulk Plants;
  • Active participant in Global GI Optimization Team to positively impact safety, environmental and production performance at both Luling and Camacari GI plants;
  • Uses expertise and judgment to help GI personnel make technical decisions;
  • Manages direction and results of GI plant projects with significant impact;
  • Provides focus and leadership to these projects;
  • Serves as a mentor to less experienced team engineers and technicians;
  • Participate as a leader and champion of plant and site teams, including safety, optimization, World Class Maintenance (WCM), etc;
  • Identify and report process safety near misses;
  • Monitor ongoing environmental performance of the plant to ensure regulatory compliance;
  • Support execution of Environmental Compliance Duties including area release reviews and reporting;
  • Support plant leadership in the oversight of start up and shutdown for major events;
  • Provide on-call plant support.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering;
  • Minimum 6 years of experience working as a Chemical Engineer;
  • Knowledge of batch/continuous process control techniques and unit operations in DCS;
  • Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
  • Demonstrated leader in safety;
  • Ability to lead without direct authority through influence;
  • Ability to apply statistics and Six-Sigma tools in a manufacturing environment;
  • Experience in project definition, design and process control;
  • Serves as a change agent across various work groups.
  • Ability to set climate/culture on diverse team composed of fellow engineers, operations, personnel
