Job Description Church of the Redeemer's Urban Farm started in 2020, which now goes by the name Solidarity Urban Farms. We have ten city plots under production. We use the produce for our community meals, sales to local restaurants, and our farm stand on the weekends. All the produce we sell is to provide income for the farm and our outreach programs. The farm also serves as a site to engage with the neighborhood through cookouts, farm work, and any kind of assistance. Our goal is to use sustainable, organic, and regenerative farm methods to build community and grow food for our neighborhood. We believe that healthy food and farming should be accessible to all people, not just the wealthy. We also provide weekly community meals and plan to expand activities in cooking, canning, and baking. We acknowledge that we are the first major urban farm in the city of Lorain and so a part of our work is shepherding the city through a new process of development. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Perform farm work including but not limited to seed starting, direct sowing, transplanting, weed management, pest management, and irrigation; Harvest, wash and store crops; Menu planning for community meals; Safe operation of farm equipment and machinery; Work with team to create community programming; Communicating goals and participating in feedback sessions with team and coordinate weekly schedule. Future Goals: Expand our current growing space; Boost our programmatic outreach; Develop housing advocacy programming Hours: Position is part-time 20 - 25 hours/week. Schedule is flexible, but attending Tuesday team meetings from 10:30 am to noon is required. Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Passionate about food justice, sustainable agriculture, ecological farming, permaculture, healthy foods, homesteading, and community-building/development; Physically able to lift 30lbs and willing to work in extreme weather conditions including heat, rain, and wind; Comfortable around differences of race, class, and life-story; Punctual, reliable, good communication and teamwork skills. Compensation: $15.00 per hour. Position is grant-funded through Lorain County Community College.
