Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervising the proper setup and barn environment for incoming weaned pigs
  • Manage the load in and sort down process upon pig arrival
  • Train, implement and supervise early weaned pig care
  • Ensure inventory control, documentation and reporting procedures with growers
  • Manage the health and medication strategy for barns under your supervision
  • Train, implement and manage proper animal welfare procedures and protocols
  • Direct and supervise established vaccination program
  • Communicate marketing and scheduling needs through the grow out process
  • Oversee selection and loadout procedures at marketing
  • Collaborate with other production supervisors on pig care/start up protocols
  • Work hours necessary to be successful and travel as needed


Experience and Skills

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in ag related field is preferred: or a combination of education and/or experience
  • 2 years of experience is preferred, but not required for the right individual
  • Understanding of swine production and sound animal welfare practices
  • PQA certification required within 30 days after hiring
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain successful relationships
  • Ability to trouble shoot pig health and environmental conditions
  • Capable of working and communicate effectively within a team environment
  • Clear understanding of proper animal comfort and welfare requirements and the ability to communicate those requirements to growers
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills that allow the ability to work within strict time frames
  • Ability to work without supervision and make appropriate decisions
