Maximum of 400 hours (10 weeks), 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. No work will be performed on the following University of Idaho observed holidays - Memorial Day (May 27), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4). Position Responsibilities Position Summary Summer Internship - Community Gardens Horticulture Responsibilities Job Duty Function Perfom summer internship duties by: Job Duties/Responsibilities • Assisting at tabling and outreach events throughout the community to promote UI Extension programs. • Identifying partners and volunteers to establish and strengthen steering committees to support community garden efforts. • Assisting with youth and adult education in the Jr. and adult Master Gardener volunteer initiatives. • Assisting with data collection at community gardens, community outreach, and Master Gardener activities. • Designing a campaign to help educate the public on the Master Gardener program and Extension steering committee programs. • Attending any professional development opportunities as available. • Preparing an internship experience final report and submitting to the UI Extension Director at the conclusion of the internship. Percentage Of Time 100% Essential/Marginal Essential Position Qualifications Required Qualifications • Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits within the last year (these 12 credits may come from high school dual enrollment credits) and are currently enrolled at one of the following eight Idaho public universities or colleges (private Idaho universities or colleges do not qualify). Priority will be given to University of Idaho student applicants. University of Idaho Idaho State University Boise State University Lewis-Clark State College College of Southern Idaho College of Western Idaho College of Eastern Idaho North Idaho College • Must provide own transportation and have the ability to travel to multiple work sites. University will follow applicable policies if personal vehicle is used, which may include reimbursement at a pre-established rate. Preferred Qualifications • Completed coursework in Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Education, Food Systems or other relevant subject areas. • Outgoing and comfortable working with the public and volunteers. • Self-motivated and capable of working independently. • Experience working in retail or service industry. • Enjoys working in a variety of settings and environments with diverse audiences. • Experience in creating and distributing digital media and communications. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Willing and able to work out of doors several times per week in hot weather.
