Welcome to Weaver’s Orchard!  We are a 4th generation family business located in the scenic hills of Berks County in southeastern Pennsylvania.  We have an expansive fruit farm with a year-round farm market stocked with fresh and local produce, a cafe, deli, bakery and more. We offer pick-your-own fruit from June to October as well as many family-friendly events centered around our crops.  As a family-owned farm, we are always thinking about the next generation and the generations to come. We strive to keep our family, our land, and our community safe and healthy.

We are looking to hire a Farm Market Manager to join our team in Morgantown, PA (about 12 miles south of Reading). We are looking for an individual who will join us in helping all team members adopt our vision and be motivated to live it and pass it on. As our market continues to grow, we are highlighting two areas of experience that will be beneficial to this role: culinary experience and an understanding of financial analysis of the market and its departments.

In this role you will be accountable for supervision and coaching of department managers and staff, setting the general atmosphere for work ethic and customer service, goal setting and attainment, completion of projects and evaluation of profitability. The manager will develop and grow relationships with vendors and oversee purchasing of current and new products. The market manager will exercise authority and independent judgement regarding making decisions, while reporting directly to the owners.

We offer competitive compensation depending on experience, Sunday’s off, holiday, and vacation pay. This position requires an average of 45-48 hours/week for most of the year (will fluctuate with seasons), including most Saturdays and holidays (with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s).

What you will be doing:

Providing Customer Service:

  • Provide prompt and friendly service to our customers.
  • Engage and interact with customers to create a positive and familiar shopping experience.
  • Respond positively to customer’s inquiries and assist in finding items, product information and selection, purchases and loading vehicles.
  • Learn from our customers and implement changes according to shifting interests/needs.
  • Coaching and managing Staff:
  • Promote and facilitate open and constructive communication between departments, managers, and owners, collaborating to form a cohesive team.
  • Train, motivate, evaluate, and guide managers to fulfill current and future goals of the business.
  • Oversee department managers in their training of respective staff, ensuring that the established procedures and guidelines are being transmitted.
  • Ensure that all communication from owners and management is relayed to all staff through department managers.
  • Develop, seek and/or facilitate employee development and training.
  • Assist with daily schedule changes.
  • Assist in hiring of new staff.

Oversee the Retail Market:

  • Relate to vendors and oversee the purchasing of product.
  • Source new products/vendors.
  • Establish and achieve sales/financial objectives; train department managers to do the same.
  • Create and implement attractive displays, pricing, and promotions (alongside department managers).
  • Learn and follow proper food safety regulations and train staff to do the same.
  • Ensure cleanliness, organization, and worker safety throughout work and storage areas.
  • Participate in inventory of product alongside departments managers as needed.

This role is for you if you have:

  • A high school diploma and experience in retail and management of people and product.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative when problems arise.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to adapt to ever-changing retail environment.
  • Capability of managing time in a fast-paced environment during busy days/seasons and juggling multiple priorities while remaining poised and positive.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs frequently.

Preferred, not required:

  • Experience relating with vendors, investigating and establishing the sale of new products.
  • Culinary experience with made-to-order foods, small-scale catering, specialty foods, or any of the above.
  • An understanding and ability to coach others in financial reports and profit margins, goal setting, correction, etc.
  • Creativity to be used in creating displays and the general market atmosphere.
  • Experience and competence in marketing and promotions, to work alongside our marketing team to creatively promote our business.
  • Ability to operate a forklift along with basic abilities in carpentry, electric, plumbing and mechanics a plus.
