We may choose to close this recruitment on or before March 3rd, 2024, without notice **In addition to the base salary above** Industrial Hygienists and Safety & Health Professionals will be compensated basic salary plus 10% for each hour they are required to use personal protective equipment (excluding hard hats, boots, hearing and eye protection) to enter a hazardous worksite to consult, inspect or investigate where serious hazards are present. ALSO All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for this position will be provided by L&I DOSH as specified in WAC 296-800-16020. Are you ready for new and exciting challenges? We are in need of an Industrial Hygienist within our Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH). In this role, you will perform complex workplace inspections and investigations in Agriculture for all types of occupational health hazards to determine compliance with WISHA standards. Examples of agricultural worksites include dairies, farms, nurseries, fields, orchards, vineyards, cannabis grow sites, oyster beds/farms and other aquaculture, cranberry bogs, tree farms, and temporary worker housing. In addition to evaluating noise, chemicals, respiratory protection, confined spaces and the more typical industrial hygiene hazards, industrial hygienists in the agriculture industry conduct inspections related to cholinesterase monitoring, pesticide drift, pesticide reentry time limits, and other requirements in the Worker Production Standard section of , Agriculture. L&I's Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) by developing and enforcing rules that protect workers from hazardous job conditions. Our investigators visit about 5,000 workplaces each year and cite businesses that violate health and safety rules. CISHI-3s are senior level safety and health investigators that have attended a defined new hire course that includes over 360 classroom hours (provided upon hire). They conduct highly complex investigations and inspections of safety and health hazards in all industries independently or in teams. This includes fatalities or accident investigations, resulting in hospitalizations, amputations, or loss of an eye. They lead CISHI-1 and CISHI-2 investigators and inspectors, or work as part of a team assisting and supporting CISHI-5 supervisors and CISHI-6 expert level industrial safety and health engineers in highly complex investigations and inspections. All of this work is crucial to the safety and health of the workers of the State of Washington, and directly impacts and supports the Department's mission, "Keep Washington Safe and Working". For this position, telework is permitted on occasion dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. The assigned duty station for this position is any L&I location statewide! You will find yourself in the office approximately 20% and the other 80% will be spent in the field and at home teleworking to complete your inspection reports. Qualifications REQUIRED:
Five years' experience as a DOSH Compliance Industrial Safety and Health Investigator (CISHI/CHSO), or equivalent experience as a Federal OSHA or other state plan journey-level safety and health specialist with industrial hygiene experience. OR Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). OR Five years of full-time professional industrial hygiene experience as an employer's safety director or manager, industrial hygienist, safety and health specialist, etc. OR Seven years of full-time journey level industrial hygiene or equivalent experience in one or more of the following industries: Government, military, public health, or related safety and health field. ORA Bachelor of Science degree from a regionally accredited university in industrial hygiene or similar field AND five years of professional industrial hygiene or equivalent experience. DESIRED:
