Agronomy Applicator – The Andersons Inc.

A little about the business: Welcome to The Andersons! What began as a single grain elevator and one man’s dream has grown into a publicly traded company with diverse interests that include agribusinesses such as grain and plant nutrients as well as railcar leasing and repair, industrial products formulation, turf products, and ethanol operations.  Join our Plant Nutrient Group that formulates, stores and distributes crop protection and nutrients through our agricultural retail locations and extensive network.

What you would be doing: Located in northeastern Indiana, our Waterloo Farm Center sells dry and liquid fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and many custom blends.  You would be mixing, hauling, spreading, and applying liquid and dry fertilizer and crop protection by operating our sprayers and spreaders to provide accurate and timely custom application to customer’s farm fields.  You would be key part of the team as you will be responsible for ensuring correct application rates and proper handling of equipment.  You will also be assisting in other areas at the agronomy farm center. Enjoy operating heavy equipment, being outdoors and seeing the impact of your work.

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required 
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Commercial Applicator’s License & CDL upon hire

Applicator – Operations for Central Valley AG

A little about the business: Central Valley Ag (CVA) is a member-owned farmers’ cooperative located in central and northeastern Nebraska. Established in 2003, CVA has 365 employees across our trade area that provide agronomy, grain, and feed services to over 10,000 farmers and ranchers.

What you would be doing: As an employee in Agronomy Operations at Central Valley Ag, you will be responsible for assisting in the handling of agronomy products coming in and going out of the agronomy plant and to perform routine maintenance.

Farm & Compost Internship for Queens Botanical Garden

A little about the business: QBG Farm & Compost site is a place where New Yorkers can participate in and learn about urban farming and composting through tours, workshops, internships, and volunteer opportunities. Fruit and vegetables are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, and compost is made and applied to promote soil and plant health. Crops harvested are shared with seasonal interns and volunteers and donated to emergency food relief programs. Compost is used across the botanical garden and the Farm as well as distributed to those who participate in Food Scrap Drop-Offs.

What you would be doing: Interns will support NYC Compost Project staff in running and maintaining one acre of intensively planted, mixed vegetable, fruit, and flower production and educational areas. Interns will also help support on-site composting operations; including processing organics collected at food scrap drop-offs. We are looking for dedicated, hard-working individuals with a keen interest in urban farming and composting.

Qualifications: 

  • Self-motivated, excellent communicator, with the ability to work alone as well as with others
  • Commitment to being present and punctual on workdays
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather; able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Interest in food waste reduction and urban agriculture
  • Ability to perform diverse, sometimes repetitive, tasks that can be physically demanding

Cooler Manager for Central Coast Cooling

What you would be doing: The cooler manager position directs and manages all pre-cooling and cooler day-to-day operations with overall responsibilities for pre-cooling, cooling, inventory, quality and other production-related activities including product handling and storage/shipment.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business a plus or ten plus years cooler manager experience in a produce pre-cooling and cooler environment.
  • Experience in materials management, master scheduling and inventory control systems highly desirable.
