Farm Irrigation Technician for Knutson Irrigation

A little about the business: Knutson Irrigation, based in Yukon, OK, is a Valley Irrigation performance plus dealer that provides sales, service, parts, and installation of center pivots to our farm customers. They are currently looking for a full-time Service Technician to join their team.

What you would be doing: As the Service Technician, you would be responsible for providing quality customer service while utilizing mechanical abilities to service, repair, recondition, and assemble customer’s new or used irrigation or ag equipment in the field. Some of your responsibilities would include troubleshooting, diagnosing, and conducting mechanical repair on center pivot, linear, and corner irrigation systems, working directly with farm growers, and working with installation crews.

Qualifications: 1+ years’ experience in maintenance and repair of electrical or mechanical systems, ability to work year round, ability to communicate clearly with customers, ability to use service related technology and basic computer functions, and a valid driver’s license.

Farm Manager for Trembling Prairie Farms

A little about the farm: Trembling Prairie Farms is a family-owned farm operation that grows a variety of vegetable crops in Wisconsin and Montana. They grow red onions, yellow onions, red potatoes, specialty potatoes, celery, seed potatoes, pinto beans, and other rotational crops. They are looking for a full-time Farm Manager to join their Kinsey, Montana location.

What you would be doing: As the Farm Manager, you would offer strong knowledge of agronomy and potato/vegetable background along with working independently on managing the location and other full-time employees. Some of your responsibilities would include leading all aspects of the farming operations, overseeing all field operations, overseeing and managing a team of full-time employees, communicating on an ongoing basis with the owner, and managing all aspects of agronomy.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in crop and soil sciences, agronomy, agriculture, plant pathology, or an agricultural related field, 2+ years’ potato and/or vegetable growing experience, and a strong knowledge and understanding of agronomy and/or agronomic practices.

Director of Operations for Dole Food Company

A little about the business: Dole Food Company is the world’s largest producer and marketer of high-quality fresh fruit and vegetables. They also market a growing line of packaged and frozen foods and are a produce industry leader in nutrition education and research. They are looking for a Director of Operations to join their team in Watsonville, California.

What you would be doing: The Director of Operations is responsible for Dole Berry Company’s US Operations, including the farming, harvesting, and grower services for the United States. Some of your responsibilities would include recommending, implementing, and coordinating the planting for the varietals, coordinating harvest operations in all areas, directing harvest and logistics equipment, negotiating contracts with growers, overseeing growing and harvest to ensure cost efficiency, and ensuring adherence to Food Safety and Quality standards in growing, harvesting, and cooling operations.

Qualifications: 10-15 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in berry related agriculture, and a BS/BA from a four-year college or university, preferable in an Ag Science or Ag Business related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

Crop Production Manager for Bishop’s Orchards

A little about the farm: Bishop’s Orchard is a family-owned orchard, small fruit, and vegetable operation located in Guilford, Connecticut. The farm includes a retail market, cider mill, farm winery, CSA and P.Y.O operation, fruit orchards, berry crops, and an assortment of vegetable crops. They are looking for a Crop Production Manager to join their team.

What you would be doing: As the Crop Production Manager, you would report to the CEO/Farm Manager and would coordinate the various tasks necessary to produce and deliver high quality crops to market. Some of your responsibilities would include inspecting orchards and other units, planning and supervising the planting, cultivating, harvesting, and storing of crops, creating reports on time, equipment, materials, costs, and production, researching and making recommendations, performing routine inspections, and operating trucks, tractors, and farm and power equipment to care for crops and to maintain or adjust equipment.

Qualifications: Experience in general farm work involving farm planning, methods, and production, experience in supervisory work, thorough knowledge of farm equipment and materials, ability to keep records, ability to plan and direct large-scale diversified farm activities, and computer skills.

Grower for Willoway Nurseries

A little about the business: Willoway Nurseries is one of the largest wholesale growers of quality nursery stock in the Midwest and ranks within the top 40 nationwide. Willoway encompasses approximately 550 acres of field production and 450 acres of container stock which includes 32 acres of climate controlled greenhouses. They carry over 2,000 different plant varieties and are looking for a Grower to join their team in Avon, OH.

What you would be doing: As the Grower, you would be responsible for cultural practices related to ornamental shrubs and trees on a 100-acre site and for the development of the growing team. Some of your responsibilities would include management of all growing and cultural techniques that support continuous improvement, oversight of water management on the site, development of various projects in identifying and developing new growing techniques, assessment of crop development and risk, and development of strong leadership, teambuilding, and horticultural skills with the team.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or related field, 5 years’ industry experience, good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and pesticide applicator’s license (can be obtained once hired).
